• Victoria Memorial

Often considered to be the pride of Kolkata, this white marble structure built to honour the memory of the Queen Victoria is certainly a treat to watch and admire. The Victoria Memorial was built sometime between 1906 and 1921. This magnificent piece of architecture is governed by the Ministry of Culture; it also acts as a museum.

• Fort William

Built on the eastern banks of the River Hooghly, the fort is named after the King William II of Scotland and after the King William III of Britain. It was built in the early years of the Bengal Presidency during the British Rule. Do visit this place and witness some of Britain’s architecture here in India.

• Howrah Bridge

Perhaps the busiest bridge in West Bengal situated over the Hooghly River, the Howrah Bridge or the Rabindra Setu connects Kolkata to Howrah. When the lighting of the bridge is on during the night, it is a spectacle to watch.

• The Belur Mutt

Established by Swami Vivekananda, the Ramakrishna Mutt is headquartered at the Belur Mutt in Kolkata. It is one of the significant institutions of Kolkata. People from across the globe visit the Mutt irrespective of caste and religion. The temple gives out an aura of quietude and peacefulness that you just cannot miss. People generally spend about 3 hours in the site, appreciating the positive nature it offers.

• Eden Gardens

The Eden Gardens is the largest cricket stadium in India. It can seat up to 66,000 spectators making it the second largest in the world. In case there is a cricket match going on here during your time of visit, do make it a point to visit the stadium. You could also visit the stadium if there is no match to explore all parts of the wonderful piece of architecture.
